Calypso Announces 2011 Be | Heard School Grant Winners

K-12 schools in Georgia, Ohio, Virginia and California awarded SoundPost systems to improve listening, teaching and learning

Woodbury, MN, (Jul 25, 2011)

Calypso Systems, a leading developer of multimedia technology solutions for K-12 classrooms, announced winners for its 2011 Be | Heard School Grant program.  The Campus Level Grant winner (30 classrooms) is DeKalb County School District in GA.  In addition, the Grade Level Grant winners (3 classrooms each) are Bloom-Carroll School District in OH, Falls Church City Public Schools in VA and Wiseburn School District in CA.

The grant, presented by the Calypso School First Foundation (CSFF), is designed to benefit schools by improving communication between students and teachers in the classroom. The grant provides classroom voice amplification systems to several public school districts each year and was expanded in 2011 to include four districts.  Also for the first time in 2011, the grant provides SoundPost classroom solutions.  The portable, non-installed, performance of SoundPosts allows the Grant winners to enjoy the benefits from voice amplification in more classroom spaces than ever before.
“In its third year, the Be Heard | School Grant program has continued to highlight the importance of classroom amplification,” said David H. Parish, Ph.D., president of Calypso Systems. “We received hundreds of entries from schools all across the country seeking to improve teaching and learning, and we commend all who applied.”

Research studies have consistently shown that classroom voice amplification improves academic outcomes and reduces behavioral issues through increased student comprehension and attention. It is estimated that more than 300,000 U.S. classrooms now use some sort of amplification in the classroom, with many more hoping to add this important technology before long.

“I see SoundPost being used on a daily basis for everything from student presentations in the classroom to improving sound from the teacher’s workstation”, said Andy Doss from Bloom-Carroll in OH.  “And of course it will be used during the daily classroom activities so that all students in the classroom can better hear / understand what their teacher is saying.”

About the Be | Heard School Grant
Established in 2009 by the Calypso School First Foundation (CSFF), the Be|Heard School Grant program has awarded more than $300,000 worth of classroom voice amplification equipment to schools in nine states. With school budgets tightening and classroom audio needs still underserved in a majority of districts, Calypso provides a single “Campus Grant” of up to 30 systems and three “Grade Grants” of three systems each.
