Analog Tuner from Calypso Systems Extends the Life of Existing Classroom Televisions

WOODBURY, MN, (Feb 19, 2009)

As school districts upgrade classroom technology to accommodate the transition from analog to digital television broadcasting, many K-12 school are discovering that new DVD players are not compatible with older televisions. To help schools extend the life of their existing televisions, Calypso Systems has introduced an analog CATV tuner.

A standalone device that can be mounted anywhere in the room, Calypso’s CSD- 500 Analog CATV tuner enables schools to continue using their existing analog televisions in conjunction with newer DVD player models which no longer have analog tuner capabilities. A cost-effective solution, the CSD-500 converts standard definition digital television signals that are compatible with older analog equipment found in most classrooms.

“Even classrooms with a variety of technology such as computers, projectors and televisions are only useful if the information feeds and inputs are compatible with the hardware,” said David H. Parish, Ph.D., president of Calypso Systems. “The CSD-500 allows television content to remain in its place alongside Web content, DVDs, PowerPoint presentations and standard lesson plans without having to invest in all new AV equipment.”

The compact CSD-500 serves as an integrated tuner, with no on-board user interface. Instead, TV channel selection can be controlled through an infrared (IR) remote, a PC-based remote, a wall mount IR control panel or third-party control. Additionally, the CSD-500 offers channel lock-out, channel selection feedback and an on-screen display for current channel information. The CSD- 500 also allows schools to program channels on one tuner and then copy that file to additional tuners, saving the time that it would take to program on a room-byroom basis.

In addition to its use with televisions, the analog tuner can also be used in situations where the classroom does not have a VCR or DVD player and the instructor uses a computer to show DVDs.

The CSD-500 Analog CATV tuner has a list price of $199.00 and is compatible with all brands and models of televisions and DVD players.
